House of Small Wonder, Williamsburg

House of Small Wonder is a European inspired cafe, in a small cozy establishment which focusses solely on the quality of their food. The decor was amazing as you walk in you are greeted with a tree trunk and vines hang around you, a perfectly cute place to have a small lunch or breakfast.

New York City 'Shopping Capital of the World'

When told to explore the retail experiences of New York it basically meant to my group for us to shop as much as possible then conclude how much we managed to buy. The city has a wide variety of shops and markets full to the brim with both new and old garments. My favourite shop found was Beacons Closet in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a vintage emporium filled with good condition clothes for sale some dating back over 50 years.

If vintage isn't your thing theres tons of mainstream stores on a large scale situated on 5th avenue and in the trendy SoHo district.

Fashion Institute of Technology

Doing a fashion course in university and being taken to New York is always a dream come true but even more so when you get to visit on of the most prestigious universities for fashion in the world situated on Fashion Avenue in downtown New York. The New York Fashion Institute of Technology is an internationally recognised college for design, fashion, art, communication and business.

Whilst visiting the institute we took a brief course introduction into the art of perfume making, this gave us an insight into how many artificial smells are made and how many popular perfumes are grouped into categories just by their scents.

FCP take New York

New York City is the epicentre for everything cool and hip. In a recent university trip over to the states we were asked to investigate the full cultural and retail experiences of New York, considering its reputation for having been the location for so many inspirational moments in fashion, film, music, art, architecture and street culture. We researched retail environments in various parts of the city and a variation of museum exhibitions.

The trip began early January 6th leaving Nottingham at 5 in the morning we traveled to London then caught  flight for 8 hours across the pond arriving in New York at half 6 in the evening. We stayed in the Walcott hotel on 31st and 5th, right in the middle of Manhattan.

Staying in a city with such a huge reputation as one of the best in the world made me excited to get straight out and explore.
